so I was at work the other day, and this mage guy was playing on the cafe computers. It seriously blows me mind that he plays with original UI and no add ons for pve? I watched another couple walk in and bring their lap tops and go through some random heroics together. They were also using original UI. Is that normal?

Ok so I am back for now... time to start leveling toons...
The stock UI, theoretically has everything required to play the game.
That being said, I personally have found that certain parts of the game or things can be improved to better suit my needs via addons and altering the UI.
Based on what you described of their activities it sounds like they don't do a great deal of raiding, where a lot of the changes at least for me have become very helpful. Seeing Debuff Stacks, dispel Icons, etc
The default UI is probably adequate for DPS, and even tanking. That said, anyone using the default UI is likely oblivious to a lot of what's going on.
