so... I had this assignment to design packaging for a product. she offered CD covers plus albums, but I chose the latter to design a toy (using a 3-d program) and include toy packaging. just want some opinions. like it, don't like it, why? :3 I based it off a blind box toy market where you don't know which toy you'll get until you open the box.

and if this was real, would you totally buy it :D?

I brought up my 4 and 6 year old and they loved em. At 2 dollars each I am sure that I would have a home filled with those sitting next to their littlest pet shop toys.

I like it! Your design looks very professional.

That looks really nice! My only complaint is that when the box is assembled all of the graphics will be sideways when it's sitting on the shelf (the lid of the box is on the right).

Looks really good Kage! I love how the box itself looks playful. You have are really quite talented with color in particular imo :) I think the temptation for most would be to package a toy like this with bright garish colors, yet you used a blue with soft elements in the background and it's still really compelling and eye catching. More importantly it looks distinct.

I really only have two criticisms. One Aven already said regarding the spacial relationship of the box. The other is I would import the image back into PS and feather the edges of the Octopi. Granted the rough edges could simply be a product how how the jpg is scaled atm.

oh yeah, when I exported the .png, the linked .psd files didn't smooth out. if I could post a .pdf, it fixes the edges of the octopi =/ :D and yeah today I spent class making a 3-D box for the packaging to look physical. I thought it was funny because you actually have to slice off each face to creat 3-D mapping in illustrator. (so it's like, gaawwdd why did I make that package layout in the first place! XD) I'll post the finished design when I get a chance :D thank you for all your advice and input everyone!

I have to agree with Aven. The panels need to be flipped so when it is assembled they are not upside down or sideways.
